Sergeant was the best hunting dog I ever had. Fourteen seasons together in those mountains. He could point a grouse at a hundred yards and never once flinched during a thunderstorm. Toughest animal I ever knew. When the cancer took him, I wasn't going to do anything sentimental. That's not who I am. But my wife ordered this paw print kit, and when I pressed his paw into that clay for the last time... well. I'm not going to talk about what happened next. Point is, it hangs in my study now, right next to my grandfather's rifle. That's the highest honor I can give. The craftsmanship earned its place there.
